I snagged tickets a few months ago to view the official portraits of former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama. I remember when the portraits were first revealed and the stories of the artists behind them. I knew seeing them in person would be a once in a lifetime experience so I had to go. I must say that seeing them up close and personal was definitely an experience I’ll cherish.

I was kinda surprised at how close they allowed visitors to get to them, it definitely gave me the opportunity to really soak in all of the intricate details, textures and colors.

I enjoyed reading The Obama’s statements on the pieces and even more so the artists perspectives and why they chose each specific detail in the paintings and what they represented.

Of course I made my rounds to some of the other galleries during my visit. First up was a 3D abstract exhibit. Lots of unique items with bold colors and shapes.

I never leave without seeing their black artist installations which never disappoint. The portraits of black men were my favorites.

I also visited a fun gallery that caught me by surprise which was KAWS Prints. I immediately recognized his work because someone I know is a big fan. The collection was colorful with bold prints and quite unique.

A day full of art, history and culture is a day well spent 🙂
