So, I’ve made a commitment to myself to get out more and meet new people. But as an adult making friends has been quite the challenge. First of all where do you even start? I think the most challenging part is the realization that most people my age already have established friendships and community. Not to get all dark and deep here but I just don’t have that, and my desire to build community for myself has grown.
I was scrolling my meetup app, which if you’re not familiar is an app that connects people with similar interests to attend and organize events and socialize in your city. I joined a few local groups recently and decided to finally attend my first meetup. The gathering was at a new space called Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee, Georgia. There are two things that I never need convincing on, art and alcohol. (I don’t drink that often but I love a cute outing with a cute cocktail)
When I arrived there was this super cute mural in the parking lot
Once I got inside I gathered with my group and then the host asked us all to do quick introductions (Oh, god why!) So yeah introductions and talking about myself are always sorta…awkward. But everyone kept it short and to the point with our names and where we’re from so I was able to put my preplanned anxiety attack back in my purse 😀
First up was a guided tour of the distillery. Where we learned a lot of cool facts about how everything works behind the scenes. We even got to see a live demo of how they bottle their liquor.
Next was the fun part. We got to sample some of their most popular spirits. I’m not a dark liquor girl so some of these were a little bit too strong for my taste.
After we were all tingly and toasty we got to walk around and view their curated art gallery, which I was definitely looking forward to. They had a collection of beautiful paintings by various artists.
There were also beautiful murals throughout the gallery on the walls. A cute sitting area with a view of the distillery and even the entryway to the restrooms.
Each restroom had a different theme of art inside. Who doesn’t love a good restroom mirror selfie?
After our tour the group made our way over to have a drink and a light snack (they have a full bar inside). You can also purchase some of their hand crafted liquors to go.
I truly enjoyed the whole experience and my first meetup! I definitely plan to go back for a visit, it would be a cute date night. If you’re interested in checking out the distillery I recommend booking the tour. They also have events throughout the year so be sure to see what’s on their schedule when you visit!
