Fall is my favorite season, this weekend I decided I was in the mood for some outdoor activity. I was looking up sunflower fields in my area because I’ve always wanted to visit one. In my search I came across Southern Belle Farms in McDonough, Georgia. The farm has seasonal crops, family activities and outdoor attractions.
During their Fall season they have a farm market, bakery, flower fields and pumpkin patch. I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch which is actually kinda wild when I think about it. So the idea of going brought out the excitement in my inner child who’s obviously missed out on so many things.
As soon as I arrived I was a little overwhelmed with all the school bus loads and lines of small children. My immediate thoughts were hmm…is this for my grown ass lol but there was no turning back!
I walked around for a bit to check out all of the activities and I’m gonna be honest the majority of them are for kids or the kid at heart and just not for me. So I decided to go check out the corn maze which is a four acre cornfield where they carve a unique maze design into every year. Before entering the maze the host gave a quick history about how the corn is grown and instructions on navigating through the maze. I opted for the kids/beginners entrance because I have a deep fear of getting lost and I’ve seen all those horror movies lol.
I’m gonna be honest…something about walking through it was very eerie and creepy. As soon as I walked in I was ready to turnaround but I’m no quitter (you literally can’t quit you have to walk through to the exit unless someone’s horrified enough by your haunting screams from the panic attack to come rescue you from the embarrassment). I definitely made a few dead end turns but I successfully made it through. I never want to do that again, at least not alone. 🙂
After that I decided to walk around the farm for a bit and just take in some of the beauty.
Next up, I heard they had a pig race so I made my way over. This was actually pretty fun to watch. The cute little piggies ran across a little pool and boy oh boy was it exciting. (Fun Tip: Don’t sit right at the front unless you enjoy being splashed)
After that I made my way to the hayrides where a tractor with a seated trailer gave us a tour of the entire farm. They showed us where their crops like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and peaches grow. None of those were currently in season so we didn’t get to see any in person but I definitely plan to come back in the spring/summer to pick some! The ride was fun and the scenery was beautiful.
Next I was ready for my main reason for coming. The sunflower field! They have a u-pick station where you can purchase a large cup and whatever you can fit inside is yours. I could’ve spent all day among those flowers they were so pretty and it just felt peaceful. Across from the sunflowers they also have a field of wild flowers which were oh so pretty.
I loved the variations of the sunflowers. They were all sizes, some had deeper golden hues which were my favorite.
I kinda think I was born to frolic in a field of flowers 🙂
Next was the pumpkin patch! I’m not really into pumpkins I can’t recall if I’ve eaten one or anything pumpkin related. But I did end up buying 2 small cute pumpkins just for the experience haha.
After all of the walking around and exploring I was hungry. I visited their country market which also had a fresh bakery with sweet treats! There was so much to choose from but I bought farm made jams (which ended up being so damn good I had to just sample and get rid of the rest before they got me in trouble lol) I had chicken tenders and a cold drink from the bakery and also their infamous apple cider donut which was absolutely delicious. I regret not trying some of their homemade ice cream but I didn’t want to overdo it on the sugar. I’ll definitely be back to fully indulge though.
All in all I had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go back. While they have an abundance of kid activities, there is truly something for everyone. I’d highly recommend visiting if you haven’t and always check their website for the latest updates of what’s in season and when they’re open as that varies throughout the year.
